The American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS) “advances the science and technology of oils, fats and proteins, surfactants and related materials, enriching the lives of people everywhere.”

The AOCS is monitoring the World Health Organization’s announcement of a….
Certification Program for Trans Fat Elimination. The program will recognize countries for their efforts to eliminate industrially produced trans-fatty acids (TFA) from their national food supplies and aims to accelerate global progress towards the goal of eliminating all industrially produced TFA by 2023.
Our emphasis here is noting their continuing research on extra virgin olive oils, through lectures, events and publications such as: “OLIVE and OLIVE OIL BIOACTIVE CONSTITUENTS” by D. Boskou, the AOCS focuses on the basic ingredient of the Mediterranean Diet.
The startling results and “favorable effects of polyphenolic and other olive and olive oil bioactive ingredients on markers of chronic inflammation, platelet aggregation in the blood stream, oxidized LDL cholesterol, joint health, skin disorders and neuro-
degenerative (cognitive effects) are continually opening new frontiers for medical and pharmaceutical research”.
